GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) – Fishing line can take hundreds of years to decompose. So now a new recycling unit at Greenville’s port terminal boat ramp is making it easier to throw away used fishing line.
Kelsey Curtis owns the kayak shop Knee Deep Adventures, and she requested the help of animal organizations to make the recycling unit possible.
“I’ve found fish that have been wrapped up in it,” said Curtis. “I’ve even found a nutria covered in fishing line before, and it’s really sad to see that kind of stuff happen. So again, I love wildlife, I love our rivers, so I really hope that it makes a positive difference.”
You can also pick up a portable fishing line unit to take on your boat to store your used line.
