GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – As Greenville’s population continues to grow, so does the number of businesses in town.

The uptown area isn’t the only place they’re going. Businesses want to go where the people are, where the traffic is.

Businesses owners tell WNCT’s Zora Stephenson the locations just happen to be outside of uptown.

Uptown Greenville, you hear about its growth all the time. That’s thanks in part to a grant program helping revitalize uptown Greenville

But lots of local businesses say you can have success outside of the city’s hub.

“I picked this location for the visibility,” said Jessica Albea, Juice Vibes.

“Business 101 tells you that location is everything,” agreed Andre Duncan, Run-A-Boat.

From Memorial to Arlington and Greenville Boulevard, it’s obvious the saying ‘if you build it, they will come’ holds true in Greenville.

In the past couple months, a juice place and Jamaican spot have opened up, both outside uptown.

Even longtime businesses owners say they see the growth. They say the money is where the people are.

“Anywhere with heavy traffic, a lot of customers, is where you’re going to see a lot of business growth,” said Blake Walton, Children’s World.

Success doesn’t come without taking a risk. These businesses put a bunch of ideas into a blender, mix them up, and hope everything comes out smooth.

The method seems to be working.

“My husband always says you plan for the worst but hope for the best,” explained Albea.

“we’re on the right track to success,” agreed Duncan.

Every business has their own reasons for choosing various locations. One thing every shop owner says is this community supports its local businesses.
