New series features African American heritage of musicians and art in Pitt Co.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – History and music fans, get ready to celebrate the rich heritage of African American musicians here in the east.

It’s all thanks to the Pitt County Art council at Emerge Gallery.

They are hosting a new music series to recognize artists with local ties.

After nearly ten years of collaborating with artists across the east, these musicians will represent nine counties on the historic African American music trails and decades worth of musical history and traditions.

“When they looked at eastern North Carolina and the uniqueness, is that we have this incredible history of African American musicians and a lot started in Kinston playing in the James Brown Band,” said Holly

The event will happen the second Friday of each month starting this week, happening from seven to ten PM in uptown Greenville.

It’s also free and open to the public.
