FRANKLIN, N.C. (WSPA) – Macon County Sheriff’s Office detectives and SBI agents are asking for the public’s help in a homicide case in which two brothers were found dead in the back of an abandoned truck on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy was called to Jack Cabe Road to investigate a vehicle that had been abandoned on the side of the road for several days.

The deputy, trying to find who the truck belonged to, found two bodies in the bed of 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck. The truck bed had a cover over it.

The two men were identified as brothers — Francisco Altamirano, 34, and Diego Altamirano, 39.

According to deputies, the brothers were from Mexico and were living in Franklin.

Sheriff’s office detectives and the SBI responded to the scene to investigate and the bodies and the vehicle were taken to the evidence and processing building to be examined.

Sheriff’s office officials said both men had gunshot wounds, but the official cause of death cannot be determined until the autopsies are complete.

Family members told law enforcement that they were headed to Westminster, South Carolina to attend a party, but never showed up.

t was later learned that the brother planned on going to grab drinks in either Sylva, Waynesville or possibly Franklin on Saturday night.

Family members reported the brothers missing after they didn’t return home Monday and after learning they had not gone to South Carolina.

“We know they were driving the 2003 Chevy Silverado Saturday night and left their Thomas Road residence. We know they stopped a couple of times and purchased items at a business. We have receipts for purchases but the business names are not printed on those receipts. We know ‘Tecate’ beer/liquors was purchased,” deputies said.
