The 5th annual North Carolina Black Bear Festival, happening this weekend in Washington County, will feature more than 30 bear-themed educational and entertainment events for people of all ages.
The 2019 N.C. Black Bear Festival will happen on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, with activities in downtown Plymouth, N.C., located along the Roanoke River.
This year’s show will feature the world’s first mechanical black bear ride, a motorcycle stunt show, airboat rides, a black bear tent theater, make-your-own bear, a bass tournament, a Bear Necessities Paddle, Lazy River Tubing, a bass tournament, a kids fishing event, a Run with the Bear 5K, Baby Bear Contest, and a children’s bear train, among other activities.
Festival visitors can also attend a wild bear tour conducted at a local wildlife refuge, presentations by N.C. Black Bear Biologists, and free wildlife photography presentations.
On Saturday at 9 p.m., the Reflections on the Roanoke Fireworks Show will take place on the Roanoke River.
The festival was created in 2015 to celebrate the fact that coastal North Carolina has the world’s largest black bears.
