Man dead after officer-involved shooting at NC CVS

FLETCHER, NC (WSPA) – A man is dead after an armed confrontation with police at a CVS store in Fletcher, Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the CVS store on Hendersonville Road around 12:15pm for reports of an armed man inside the store.

When officers responded to the store, employees and customers told them that the man had walked to the back of the store into a storage room near the pharmacy, according to Fletcher Police Chief Eric Summey.

Chief Summey said officers found the man in the room and gave him verbal commands but he did not comply. Shots were then fired after officers saw a handgun on the man, according to police.

EMS was called to the scene but the man died from his injuries.

Investigators have not yet released the identity of the man.

Nobody else was hurt in the shooting.

North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Patty McQuillen said agents have responded to a CVS in Fletcher to investigate an officer-involved shooting.

The store remains closed while the investigation continues.
