WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) — A man who had a toddler with him when he crashed a car into a Wake Forest building Saturday is now facing DWI and child abuse charges, officials say.

The incident was reported around 3:35 p.m. at the corner of Brewer and East Chestnut avenues, according to a news release from Wake Forest fire officials.

A Kia Soul crashed into a two-story brick building, according to fire officials.

The man who was driving was found unconscious when EMS and fire crews arrived. 

The 3-year-old boy found in the Kia Soul was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the news release. 

“The driver was removed unconscious from the vehicle,” the news release said, adding the man was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Photos from the crash show the front driver’s side of the Kia with significant damage.

Jerry Jerome Stallings has been charged with DWI, felony child abuse and no operators license, according to Wake Forest town spokesman Bill Crabtree.

Crabtree did not provide an update on the condition of the man and the toddler.

No other cars were involved in the crash. There is no word on what caused the wreck.
