Remains found in Virginia ID’d as missing woman; suspect arrested in Raleigh

Remains found in Mecklenburg County, Virginia last week have been identified as a missing Cumberland County woman, and her alleged killer is in a Raleigh, N.C. jail awaiting extradition to Virginia.

Virginia State Police said Monday that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond positively identified the human remains as Amy Renee Fabian. 

Fabian, who had been missing since Friday, May 24, and a stolen Ford F-350 work truck were both located shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday in a wooded area off Route 138 — less than a mile from Route 1 — in Mecklenburg County.

Coordinated search efforts involving multiple law enforcement agencies led to Thursday morning’s discovery in Mecklenburg County state police said.
