Third suspect charged in connection with murder of 17-year-old in Seven Springs

SEVEN SPRINGS, N.C. (WNCN) - The Wayne County Sheriff's Office arrested a third suspect in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old in Seven Springs on August 11.

Terrence C. Smith, 23, of LaGrange, was charged with murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property resulting in bodily injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy.

On Tuesday, deputies arrested a third suspect for the murder and shooting into an occupied home reported on Sanderson Road in Seven Springs.

The suspect was identified as Smith.

The victim was identified as Carl Patrick Henry Leroy Jr., who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies said that Leroy was struck by a bullet that entered the home from the outside.  

At the time of the shooting, there were other individuals occupying the home.  

Deputies were assisted by the NC SBI Fugitive and Missing Person Task Force, the Goldsboro Police Department Vice Unit, the Goldsboro SEU team and the Goldsboro/Wayne County Drug Unit.

Authorities captured Smith on Harrell Street without incident.

He was sent to prison under no bond for the murder charge and a $340,000 bond for the other charges.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office arrested two suspects for the murder of a 17-year-old in Seven Springs on August 11.

Videll A. Wright, 19, of Goldsboro, and Devon A. McCollum, 24, of Snow Hill, were charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of discharging a weapon into occupied property, an open count of murder and conspiracy to commit robbery, discharge firearm into occupied property and murder. 

Deputies said that Wright and McCollum were arrested in connection to a shooting into an occupied home and murder reported on Sanderson Road.

The victim, identified as Carl P. Henry Leroy Jr., was pronounced deceased at the scene, deputies said.

Deputies said Carl was struck by a bullet that entered the home from the outside.  

At the time of the shooting, there were other individuals inside the home.  

Multiple interviews and physical evidence led deputies to link the suspects to the crime.  

Detectives along with the Drug Squad, the Patrol Division, the ACE Team, the administrative staff, the Detention staff, the Warrant Division, School Resource Officers and the SWAT Team assisted in the case.

Wright and McCollum were sent to the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond for the murder charges and $500,000 bond on all the other charges.

Wright had an outstanding warrant for traffic and controlled substance violation and was given a $2, 745 bond.

McCollum had been charged possession of cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for cocaine for an incident reported on Wednesday and was given a $5,000 bond.

The case is still under investigation and more arrests are expected.

PREVIOUS:

A 17-year old male was shot and killed on Saturday night, police said.

Officers responded around 11 p.m. to the area of 332 Sanderson Road to a report of a subject being shot. Responding deputies located Carl Patrick Henry Leroy Jr. of Seven Springs suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim died before he could be transported to a hospital by EMS.
