North Topsail Beach police make do working out of trailer post-Florence

News

The North Topsail Beach Police Department is making some adjustments after Hurricane Florence caused some damage in their building.

The police department is currently working out of a 980-foot trailer right next to their building.

“What we have is a good working environment for the officers, so it’s not bad at all,” said Chief William Younginer of the North Topsail Beach Police Department.

Due to Florence, the building has water damage, some windows blew out, and there’s mold in a few places.

Chief William Younginer said they’ve been able to make do, taking minimal things into the trailer, and have stored items in other locations.

“We’ve managed pretty well, cause we’re split up working days and nights,” said Younginer. “So, there’s usually three officers here.”

Younginer expects officers will be working out of the trailer for another year.

He also adds the town manager of North Topsail Beach is currently working with the insurance company to decide what to do with the building.

“We’ve had some meeting with the board and the town manager on what we’re going to do,” said Younginer. “Whether they’re going to remodel this one, build on it, build something new, we don’t know.”
