Officials ID victim of deadly fire in Goldsboro, no foul play suspected

Officials have identified the victim of a deadly fire reported in Goldsboro on March 6.

According to the Goldsboro Police Department, the man located inside the residence was positively identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as Gary Edwin Jones.

The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner released the results of the autopsy Jones.

The autopsy report indicates that Jones died because of smoke inhalation.

No foul play is suspected.

The SBI is investigating a fire that left one man dead in Goldsboro on Wednesday.

The Goldsboro Fire Department responded to a fire call at 519 Forest Hill Drive on Wednesday,

Officials said that while extinguishing the fire, a man was found deceased inside the residence.

At the time, the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators were contacted and responded, assuming control of the crime scene.

In addition, the NC State Bureau of Investigations responded to assist with the case.

Officials said that no foul is suspected.

The victim will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The investigation is still ongoing.
