PRINCEVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The search for a missing firefighter continues in Edgecombe County.

Late Tuesday night, Edgecombe County officials identified the man as 21-year-old Anthony Tyler Brunett.

“We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers to assist with the family to comfort them at this time, but it’s kind of one of these things where we know we have a job to do and we’re not going to go home until our mission’s accomplished, said James Powell, Chief of Princeville Vol. Fire Dept.

The sheriff’s office said Brunett and two other men were fishing and decided to go for a swim, when Brunett disappeared under the water.  Since Sunday, crews have used under water cameras, sonar and divers in an attempt to locate Brunett.

Rescue crews on the scene said it’s important to be aware of the dangers of the Tar River.

“Swimming in a river this time of year, the level of water that we’ve had is inherently dangerous, and so we urge people to refrain from doing so,” said Powell. “Even the strongest swimmers can be in distress, so we encourage people to exercise good judgement and not go into the water.”

Efforts to locate Brunett are still continuing.
