Fire officials in Jacksonville are reminding residents about illegal burning within city limits.
A permit from the fire chief is required for all fires to be conducted.
The only exception is for human warmth and preparation of food like grilling or using a fire pit.
Two to five illegal burns happen a month within the area.
Deputy fire marshall Randy Jones said most calls involved the person being unaware of the rule.
Many of the situations involve burning yard debris.
“The City of Jacksonville offers curbside pick-up for our yard debris that the citizens can utilize,”
If you are found conducting an illegal open burn, you will be asked to extinguish the fire.
Repeat offenses could result in fees.
