JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Onslow Memorial Hospital became one of the few hospitals in the state to pass a new DHHS inspection called the Patient Safety Inventory. It’s a pilot program implemented last year.

Inspectors conduct a three-day survey.

One section is on infection control.

Manager Gloria Powers said healthcare-related infections are a major concern at hospitals.

“We stay prepared at all times because all patients are important and safety is the most important thing for patients when they come in,” said Gloria Powers, RN, Manager of Infection Prevention. “You come in for a basic procedure and, when you come in, you don’t want to have some kind of infection going on.

Part of the hospital’s prevention policy includes routine hand washing and sanitizing.

Hand sanitizers are installed outside of every patient room.
