Officials in one Outer Banks town are asking visitors to not dig massive holes in the beach sand.

Nags Head officials posted a photo to Facebook earlier this week showing a huge hole in front of a tent set-up.   The post had the heading of “Oh no, they didn’t!”

The hole in the photo — which was taken around 5 p.m. Monday — had been left unattended for the day, according to the post.

Officials said it took three lifeguards around 20 minutes to fill up the hole.

The town later asked beachgoers to fill in holes — even if they leave the area for just five minutes.

“Don’t be the cause of someone getting hurt or worse,” the town wrote.

Officials also warned: “Don’t even think about leaving this on the beach overnight.”
