MERRITT, N.C. (WNCT)- Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office is looking for one or more suspects in an animal cruelty case.

Deputies, along with Pamlico County Animal Control, responded to Gibbtown Road in Merritt Monday. They found three mules fatally shot. Two of the animals were found close to the owner’s residence on Saturday. The third mule was in the animal’s stable.

Deputies believe all three livestock animals were shot at the same time.

Neighbors say they saw a silver SUV in the area Saturday afternoon around 3:00 or 4:00. They told deputies they heard gunshots shortly after the vehicle entered the area.

There is a $500 reward for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible for this crime.
