Parmalee holding flood relief concert at ECU Friday

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Many people across eastern North Carolina are still putting their lives back together in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew and they’re now getting some high-profile help from some famous natives of the East.

Platinum-selling country rock band Parmalee is performing in Minges Coliseum at ECU Friday night. All proceeds will go to help flood victims in North Carolina.

The Feels Like Carolina Flood Relief Benefit was originally announced as a homecoming concert for the Greenville natives a few months ago. When the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew swept eastern North Carolina, the band decided to step in and help. That’s why they’re giving 100% of proceeds from Friday’s concert to the American Red Cross in North Carolina.

Volunteers there say many people still need help.

“There are still many people in need and many people feeling the effects of Hurricane Matthew and so the red cross and our partner organizations and long-term recovery groups are still starting to work together and meet those needs and so events like this that help us raise dollars to help fulfill those needs is really going to be helpful and impactful to us,” said Cally Edwards, Executive Director for the Northeastern Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Band member Matt Thomas released a statement saying in part “The people of North Carolina are our greatest supporters. We considered them family and we couldn’t leave them behind during this time of need.”

Edwards say this level of support from such a well-known band is huge.

“One of the things I’ve been really humbled by in Greenville and across North Carolina is how much they’ve come, whether they’ve been able to donate a bottle of detergent or donate dollars, every little bit has helped this community and so that it’s a continuation has been really impactful,” Edwards.

Tickets are still available for the concert kicking off at 7 p.m. Click here to find tickets.

Parking costs $10 and can be paid on-site the night of the concert.
