ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – A man is facing charges after an Asheville pedestrian was fatally struck along the side of a highway.

Asheville police spokeswoman Jerri Jameson says investigators believe 26-year-old Aaron Lee Thurman had been drinking alcohol prior to hitting 23-year-old Christian Blade Johnson on Saturday morning along Interstate 240.

The Asheville Citizen-Times (http://avlne.ws/2ftMGDx) reports Thurman has been charged with driving while impaired. Officials say more charges are expected, pending a discussion with the district attorney.

Jameson says police are awaiting results of a blood test to determine his exact blood alcohol level.

Investigators believe Thurman was walking to work at a grocery store when he was struck.
