CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) – The scattered showers Sunday didn’t turn everyone away from hitting the beach this Memorial Day weekend.
“We were not going to let a storm stop us from coming to the beach on Memorial Day weekend,” said Jeanny Mullican, who added she’s going to enjoy her time off, rain or shine. She also enjoys when the beach is less crowded. “Usually it’s really hard to find parking or find a spot on the beach to sit, but we parked right against the beach and walked right on and found a nice spot.”
Kids said they didn’t care if it was cloudy. They had fun jumping through the waves and enjoying their time at the beach.
Local business said they saw more people coming into their restaurants and shops.
Oceanana Pier House Grill Manager Dollie Eubanks says the chance of rain is bringing in dozens of customers.
“We’ve been really busy, it’s been good,” Eubanks explained, adding that it’s helping all businesses, not just restaurants. “When it rains and they are at the motel they will come over and they will have lunch and enjoy talking to all of us.”
If you plan to hit the beach on Monday, lifeguards beachgoers to watch out for children. Rip currents are expected to be dangerous.
