Police investigating reported sexual assault near ECU


GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT)- Greenville Police is investigating a reported sexual assault that occurred near the East Carolina University campus Saturday morning.

Greenville Police tells WNCT that they responded to a home in the area of 5th and Elizabeth Street around 3:30 a.m. for the report of a sexual assault. Police say the reported assault occurred around 2:30 a.m. and there were no signs of forced entry.

Detectives are still in the early stages of the investigation. They are working to determine whether there is a connection between the suspect and the victim.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, with dark hair and a scruffy beard.

No further information will be released at this point in the investigation.

The address of the home is being withheld in an effort to protect the victim’s identity.
