ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) – Police say a 74-year-old woman refused the demands of an armed man Sunday to withdraw money from a bank.
The Elizabeth City Police Department says in a news release that 28-year-old Brett Ryan Cote got into the victim’s car Sunday afternoon, claiming he had a gun in his pocket and ordering her to drive him to a bank.
Police say the woman drove Cote to the bank but refused to give him money and fled from the car.
Authorities say Cote drove off in the woman’s vehicle but was captured a few minutes later. He is charged with attempted armed robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and assault. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
