OCRACOKE, N.C. (WNCT)- CenturyLink has reported a network outage affecting landlines for those on Ocracoke Island.
The Hyde County Emergency Management Department reported Wednesday night that the outage impacted 1,093 CenturyLink customers on the island.
The customers are not able to dial 9-1-1 or place any other calls from a landline phone.
Emergency Management says failed equipment at the New Bern Central Office appeared to be the cause. A technician was dispatched to the central office to repair the issue. As of 5a.m. the repair was complete, but customers are still experiencing an outage.
A second technician was dispatched and arrived in Ocracoke at 5:30a.m. to fix the problem.
The Hyde County Emergency Services Department will provide repair status updates as they become available.
