An injured sea turtle is on the road to recovery thanks to the Coast Guard, the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission (WRC) and a good Samaritan.
The crew on the fishing boat Lady Lisa found a small sea turtle Monday with a hook in its mouth and an injured fin and notified watchstanders at Station Wrightsville Beach.
The turtle was transferred to the Coast Guard boat that responded, then the WRC took custody of the injured reptile.
The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Surf City is taking care of it now.
“Due to the Lady Lisa’s quick action, authorities were able to transport this injured sea turtle to a facility where it can receive the care it needs,” said Cmdr. Matt Moorlag, the Sector North Carolina deputy sector commander. “The boating public plays a vital role in the conservation of our protected species.”
