EMERALD ISLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Emerald Isle residents and visitors had an opportunity to watch six sea turtles released into the ocean Monday.
Visitors lined up on the beach to watch.
The turtles came to the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium three months ago to be rehabilitated after they were rescued from cold waters.
Michelle Lamping works with the turtles and said she was happy they recovered so quickly.
“We can release them,” said Lamping, “as soon as they rehabilitate and recover. So they just passed their final physicals last week and then we organized a release. And we get them out as soon as they pass their last physicals.”
The aquarium rarely does beach releases this late, but the water was uncommonly cold during the spring.
