Second suspect arrested in armed robbery with semi-automatic rifle

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — The Craven County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the second suspect in an armed robbery that happened at the Beech Grove Fuel Market in New Bern on March 30.

Nigel Grady, 19, of New Bern, was arrested in Havelock on Tuesday and charged with felony robbery with dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy to commit robbery with dangerous weapon, and two felony counts of second-degree kidnapping.

Grady has also been charged with the robbery of the Lucky Star Tobacco Store in New Bern on December 21. His bond is $1.1 million.

The other suspect in the Beech Grove Fuel Market robbery, Derek Chandler, 21, of New Bern, was arrested on April 6 and charged with felony robbery with dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy to commit robbery with dangerous weapon, and two felony counts of second-degree kidnapping. His bond is $500,000.

It happened around 10 p.m. March 30  at the Beech Grove Fuel Market in the 900 block of Washington Post Road.

Surveillance photos showed a man armed with an AR-15 and carrying a black book bag.

Deputies said Grady is a black male, 6′ tall, slim build, possibly dreads, wearing a red bandana, black United States Army sweatshirt, black pants and red shoes.

There were originally another person besides Grady who was wanted for questioning, but deputies said that person has been identified, interviewed and released.
