Second threat forces West Carteret HS to delay start of classes

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WNCT) – A threat against West Carteret High School delays the start of classes on Friday.

Parents received two messages on Thursday regarding the incident.

According to the message, a bomb note was found at the school yesterday.

As a precaution, students should plan to arrive 30 minutes late to school to allow the police department time to search and secure the building.

Students will need to enter through the schools main front doors and pass through bomb sniffing dogs.

Students are encouraged to leave their backpacks at home. All other bags will be checked.

School officials say school buses will run on a regular schedule.

This is the second time a threat has forced the school to alter the start of classes this month. Last week’s threat turned out to be a hoax and resulted in an arrest.

School officials are asking parents to help spread the word to students that making these threats is a felony, even when it is a hoax. The school system says it fully supports the Morehead City Police Department in the prosecution of students or any individuals making such threats.
