A Harnett Central Middle School student was arrested Wednesday after Harnett County Sheriff’s deputies say he had a loaded gun on campus.
Around 8:35 a.m., the sheriff’s office said a “vigilant student” informed the school resource officer of a student being in possession of a loaded handgun on campus.
The deputy immediately seized the weapon and secured it.
A juvenile petition was filed against the student and they were taken into custody.
An investigation revealed the handgun belonged to an adult who lives with the student.
That adult will be charged with “fail to secure firearm to protect minor,” the sheriff’s office said.
