More Touchdown Friday

GREENVILLE (WNCT) – East Carolina’s James Summers has proven to be a big-time, big play Pirate in his short time at ECU.

Summers had a pair of bruising touchdown runs on Saturday in East Carolina’s 33-30 win over North Carolina State. One of those runs came after ECU quarterback Phillip Nelson was injured on what several Pirate players thought was a dirty play.

ECU starting quarterback Phillip Nelson knew Summers would have his back.

“I think that’s the type of guy James Summer is,” said Nelson. “He’s my brother and I think it really pissed a lot of us off, that play and you don’t want to piss James Summers off.”

“It was huge,” said Summers. “They made a dirty play on our quarterback and I came in with a purpose. That’s why I went into the end zone and scored.”

Summers and the Pirates will need even more big plays as a 7-point road underdog at South Carolina this weekend.
