GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Troopers have identified the man they say caused a head-on crash that killed a local radio personality.
In Carteret County, they say 29-year-old Donald Kennedy of Newport could face charges for Sunday’s accident that killed 75-year-old Clyde Mallison Jr. died at the scene.
He’s best known as “Tom the Jazzman” on local radio.
Doctors upgraded Kennedy’s condition at Vidant from critical to serious.
One man is dead and another is recovering from a head-on collision north of Vanceboro around 11:30 Sunday night.
Highway Patrol tells us 75-year old Clyde Mallison Jr. was driving his Volvo when a man driving a dodge pickup truck South on Highway 43 crossed the line and struck Mallison’s car.
Mallison was pronounced dead at the scene. He is best known as “Tom the Jazzman” on local radio in the East.
The driver of the Dodge pickup truck was flown to Vidant Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
Troopers say they are still trying to identify the driver of the truck who didn’t have any I.D. on him at the time of the crash.
