SWANSBORO, N.C. (WNCT) — After losing her son to suicide in May, a Swansboro mother is working to raise awareness.

The Sheaffer family is holding a celebration of life ceremony for their son Clark Saturday afternoon at Swansboro Town Hall.

They have invited suicide and addiction prevention resources to the ceremony to hand out information.

Clark’s mom Luanne Sheaffer said that she hopes that Clark’s story will inspire others to see that they’re not alone and reach out for help.

“I think we need to talk,” said Sheaffer, “about what we can do to help people get services more easily and to be able to more easily access effective treatments.”

The number for the National Suicide Prevention hotline is (800) 273-8255.
