GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – It’s likely the biggest home game of the season, not to mention an age old in-state rivalry.
It’s the ECU/NC State rivalry.
Tens of thousands will pack Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium as the Pirates look to grab their 6th straight win against an ACC opponent.
East Carolina is 1-0. North Carolina State is 1-0.
The pirates are a 4 and a half point underdog. State leads the all-time series 16-12, but the Pirates have won 7 of the last eleven.
North Carolina State arrived in town late Friday afternoon. The Wolfpack spent about 15 minutes at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
The Pirates will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Peach Bowl championship on Saturday.
East Carolina came from 17 points down in the fourth quarter to stun North Carolina State 37-34.
Former Pirate coach Bill Lewis is back in town for the weekend. He commented on that big win to WNCT 9 On Your Side Sports Director Brian Bailey.
“It was the best experience in 44 years of coaching,” said Bill Lewis. “The single best experience was being a part of that team and seeing the commitment that a group of young men made to a purpose. Then to see them pull it off and have the success that they had. And then to see them now. A lot of them look like they could still play. It’s fun.”
