In Lenoir County, time is running out to sign up for summer school.
Friday is the deadline for enrollment.
Parents are encouraged to register their children.
Educators call it a good way to prepare students for the upcoming school year.
Available programs include “Teach Across America” and “Reach to Achieve.”
Both programs target reading and writing.
A STEM camp is available for students interested in math and science.
“Camps give an opportunity to continue learning,” said Deb Winings, director of elementary education at Lenoir County Public Schools. “Sometimes in the summer you see a drop because students haven’t been engaging. It allows students to continue throughout the summer. It really extends their learning opportunities.”
Breakfast and lunch are offered throughout the camps.
