With the tax deadline quickly approaching, it is time when cases of identity theft may increase.
It has become more common in the last five to 10 years.
Mike Gurrera of Liberty Tax Service said technology has led to the rise.
“Everybody is always on their phones ordering, signing up for different products and services, so I think the way our worlds has changed to the technology think its opened us up more to the identity theft issue.”
Gurerra said some tips to prevent identity theft are to be careful when disposing of important documents, make sure they are shredded or torn up.
Another good tip is to keep all important documents, like social security cards, at home in a secure spot.
