Troopers fired after assault charges in North Carolina

Two North Carolina troopers charged with assault have been fired in a case where prosecutors say they hit a man with their flashlights.

Highway Patrol First Sgt. Michael Baker told new outlets troopers Michael Blake and Tabithia Davis lost their jobs after an internal investigation into the April 3 arrest of 29-year-old Kyron Hinton.

Body camera footage showed Hinton surrounded by officers as he moaned and gestured on a Raleigh street. A police dog then lunges at him, Hinton is tackled and at least one officer is seen punching him.

Arrests warrants say Blake and Davis hit Hinton with flashlights. They are charged with felony assault.

Prosecutors at a hearing suggested Blake and Hinton may have been told by a supervisor to not say they used force.
