Troopers: Motorcyclist from Newport killed in wreck with impaired driver

A motorcyclist who was killed in an accident near Princeton in Johnston County Sunday lived in Newport, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. 

Gary Henry, 61, was driving his Harley Davidson east on Highway 70 when he was hit by a GMC SUV that ran a stop sign on Edwards Road.

Henry was killed in the wreck.

The driver of the SUV, James Newkirk, 70, was charged with DWI and felony death by motor vehicle.

The SUV’s passenger, 27-year-old Sarah Massengill, ran from the scene but was later arrested and charged with felony fleeing the scene of an accident involving a death.
