A man has been charged with careless and reckless driving after a collision involving a school bus in Craven County.
Terry Drennen, 45, of Dover, was charged with careless and reckless driving.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol Troopers responded to a collision reported on Old US 70 Kornegay Street in Dover involving a log truck, a truck pulling a trailer and a school bus.
The accident was reported on Thursday around 7:57 a.m.
Drennen was operating a log truck for Jeremy Broadway Trucking of Vanceboro.
Eric James, 40, of Daytona Beach in Florida, was operating a two-axle truck pulling a trailer.
Perdita Hargett, 54, of New Bern, was operating a school bus.
According to troopers, Drennen was traveling east on Old US 70, and James was stopped behind the school bus that had stopped to load a child.
Drennen failed to reduce speed to avoid colliding with James’ trailer, which jackknifed and separated from the truck hitch as a result.
After the impact, Drennan ran off the roadway to the left and collided with a ditch.
After the separation, James’ truck ran off the road to the right and the trailer collided with the rear of the school bus.
The bus had twenty-seven children on board, troopers said.
At the time of the collision, two people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and were treated and released to their parents.
