GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Deputies said Wednesday they arrested two suspects in Tuesday night’s first-degree burglary at 631 Paul’s Place in Greenville.

19-year-old Ryan Maurice Aytch of La Grange and 23-year-old Dashawn Mariquise Dail of Kinston were both charged with attempted robbery with dangerous weapon and first-degree burglary.  They’re in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond, each.

Warrants have been issued for 23-year-old Danny Earl Lewis of Greenville. He’ll be arrested upon his release from Vidant Medical Center. He’ll face the same charges.

Around 9:40 p.m., the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office got a report about a male with a gunshot. He was found in his car, which was in a ditch in the 6200 block of NC 33 East. When deputies arrived, two males were in the vehicle, but only one had been shot.

Around the same time, the sheriff’s office got another report about a first-degree burglary at Paul’s Place. The caller said at least two males entered the home through the front door, and the male resident shot at the intruders, hitting one of them. The two suspects ran out the door and left in their vehicle. The wreck on NC 33 happened soon after.

Two adults and one child were in the home during the burglary.

WNCT spoke to one of the homeowners, who said she just wanted to make sure her baby was safe.

“I grabbed my baby, just ran to the back of the house,” said Mary Johnson, homeowner. “It seemed like forever, although I know it was probably only a few seconds. And then I didn’t hear any more gunfire. I come back to the living room to make sure my boyfriend is okay.”

Johnson said she never would have expected something like this to happen to her and her family.
