UPDATE: PCSO releases name of man killed in Friday fire


GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT)- The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the person killed in a house fire Friday.

Fire crews responded to a house on 3800 Old River Road.

When Pitt County deputies arrived around 6:30 p.m., they say a 32-year-old Damon Latrell Brooks died inside his car sitting in the garage.

Deputies say an adult female was outside the home and four people, including three children, were inside the home.

The preliminary investigation shows the fire started from an electrical shortage in the garage.

The home is a total loss.Previous Story:

Fire Chief Tommy Harris with the Belvoir Volunteer Fire Department says they received a call around 5:00 p.m. for a fire at the 3800 block on Old River Road.

Harris says a family was in the house when the fire broke out, but they were able to escape without injuries. Harris says the house is a total loss.

Details of the victim are not being released at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
