GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Dozens of women in the east celebrated World Breastfeeding Week during a Global Latch On event in Greenville.
It gave mothers a chance to show support for caregiving and give their children natural feeding.
Some women like Amanda Gardner continue to breastfeed their children when they are toddlers. She has a two and a half-year-old and an infant and said breastfeeding has kept her oldest child very healthy, “I think with my child’s medical record that I can see that there is benefits breastfeeding past one because the antibodies she’s getting from me she hasn’t been sick her whole second year of life.”
Lactation expert Donna Brooks said there are benefits to breastfeeding for mom and baby, “There is less incidents of ear infections and childhood obesity and diabetes and, you know, on the mom’s side there is less incidents of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.”
This was the fourth year Maternal Expressions Boutique and Vidant held the global event.
