Warsaw man shot by Clinton PD after dispute in Burger King parking lot


CLINTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A Duplin County man is dead in Sampson County after a stand-off with police in a Burger King parking lot.

The Clinton Police Department was called to a parking lot Saturday around 12:15 in the morning to a man sitting in a car with a shotgun.

Police attempted to get the man out of the car without incident, but he refused and then pointed the shot gun at officers.

Police fired, killing the man who was identified as 53-year-old John Coffey of Warsaw.

The SBI is now investigating the situation and officers involved are on administrative leave.

Both in car video and body camera footage is being analyzed in this investigation.
