WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Greenville isn’t the only city in the east looking to upgrade its waterfront amenities.
Washington has applied for a $83,000 grant to pay for a new fishing pier at Havens Gardens.
If passed, the current pier will be demolished and a new $93,000 pier will be built. It will have cut outs to make it handicap accessible.
Many say that improvements to the area are needed.
“I think you’ll see more recreation and more activity in the river with this,” commented Doland Willis, who visits Havens Gardens.
The new fishing pier is part of the Master Planning Projects for the area and was recommended to the city a few years ago.
If the grant is approved, the pier will be ready for use by next summer.
