WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Swimmers in Washington are working to raise thousands of dollars to save the city pool.

The Indoor Aquatics Center is in desperate need of a new de-humidifier that will cost about $300,000.

Washington’s city council has agreed to pay half of the money needed.

A “Save The Pool” committee has been organized to help offset the cost of the replacement.

“We have currently raised $22,200 and sum odd dollars,” said Kristi Roberson, director, Parks and Rec, Washington. “We’re a long way away from where we need to be. However, the community has come together to support the aquatics center.”

The dehumidifier helps regulate the air quality inside the aquatics center.

If you’d like to donate to the “Save The Pool” campaign, you can send your financial contribution to the City of Washington, Attn: Save The Pool.
