CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — When we think of heroes, we think of police officers, firefighters, and EMS. But rarely do we think of the people that send them out to us in an emergency.

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

It’s an opportunity to show appreciation for emergency dispatchers.

Christine Black has been a dispatcher for Carteret Emergency Communications for more than ten years. She said it’s nice to receive recognition.

“It feels really good,” said Black. “I mean a lot of times you see the recognition of law enforcement which is needed. And fire and EMS which is definitely needed. But you know for us to have this week, it’s a good feeling.”

Different organizations have provided the dispatchers with lunch each day this week to recognize their hard work.
