ENGLEHARD, N.C. (WNCT) – Fish and Wildlife Service declares the Whipping Creek Road Fire 100% contained.
According to FWS officials the perimeter of the fire is cold and crews are confident the fire will decrease in size until it completely goes out.
FWS officials will turn over monitoring of the fire to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge and the North Carolina Forest Service on Sunday. Both organizations will be responsible for any fire activity on land that falls under their jurisdiction.
As of Saturday morning, the fire impacted 15,453 acres of land in Hyde and Dare counties.
