Wings Over Wayne Air Show set for this weekend in Goldsboro

This weekend in Goldsboro, you can enjoy a free air show featuring performances from the USAF Thunderbirds and various military jets, parachutists, and special demonstration teams.

The 2019 Wings Over Wayne Air Show will take place on April 27 and 28 at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro.

Gates open at 9 a.m. both days. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and flying performances take place between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. both days, weather permitting.


Spectators will experience demonstrations from the USAF Thunderbirds, the new F-35A Demo Team, the C-17 Team, Army Black Daggers Jump Team, the Air Force Combined Arms Demo, Tora, Tora, Tora, Acemaker T-33, and many other groups.


On the ground, families can enjoy static displays of recent and heritage aircraft, the brand new KC-46A Refueling Aircraft, a Jet Truck, and military drill demonstrations. The Kids Zone will feature bounce slides, trampolines, and obstacle courses. Kids Zone tickets are available for purchase the day of the event for $10.


A new addition this year is a Beer Garden, featuring craft and commercial beverages, located on the flight line. Tickets for the Beer Garden can be purchased in advance online or at the event starting at $30/person. The ticket price includes seating, optimal viewing of the show, shaded areas, and exclusive beer stations. Beer purchases are not included in the ticket price. Guests of the Beer Garden must be at least 21 years of age and kids are not allowed in the area.

The air show and parking are free. Free potable water stations will be available for attendees to refill water bottles. Concession vendors will also sell food, beverages, and souvenirs, and vendors will accept credit cards.

Camera/video camera/cell phone: There are no security restrictions on these items. Bring only necessary camera equipment, leaving extra attachments at home. A small fanny pack or camera vest is useful for carrying extra batteries and small lenses.

Hearing protection – Visitors to the Air Show are encouraged to bring some form of hearing protection with them.

Sunscreen and other health or medical devices – Allowed. Subject to search.

Folding Chair – Must be one of the types that comes in a carrying-case, please have it out for inspection.

Small picnic blanket or seating pad – For sitting on the ground.

Small Rain Umbrella – For sun protection or rain protection. Large shade umbrellas are not permitted.

Small fanny pack, small backpacks, purse, or small bag – Small fanny packs, purses, and bags are permitted, subject to approval by gate security personnel and a hand-search at the security checkpoint. Large purses (tote bag types) are not permitted.

Stroller, small diaper bag, change of clothes – Pack light and plan to return to your car if you need to access larger items.

Weather Gear: Poncho, sun hat, rain coat, etc.

ID recommended – ID is NOT required to gain access to the Air Force Base, but all North Carolina laws requiring identification apply for driving and purchasing alcoholic beverages.


Drones or any remote-controlled flying or driving devices


Firearms, knives (including pocket knives and all purpose tools, i.e. Leatherman), blunt objects, and items restricted by federal law or which, in the judgment of Air Show/Open House officials, may create a safety risk or reduce the enjoyment of the event by other guests.

Any backpacks, coolers or bags larger than 14″ wide/tall.

Large golf umbrellas, tents

Pets (service animals with proper documentation are allowed)

Glass containers

Bikes, heelies, roller blades, skateboards, mopeds, scooters, wagons

Beach balls, signs, balloons, flags, or banners

Horns, whistles, air horns, other noise-making items

Allowed with search: Purses, diaper bags if accompanying a child, small backpacks, camera bags, small umbrellas, water bottles for refilling at our filtered water stations, and lawn chairs

All items brought are subject to approval by gate security personnel and a hand-search at a security checkpoint.
