GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT & ECU Media Relations) – As a senior at Stephen F. Austin High School, Isaiah Jones received just two official offers to play college football: Arkansas State and East Carolina.

And today, Jones, who now goes by ‘Zay’, is just eight catches shy of setting the all-time NCAA record for most catches in college football history.

Jones has 380 career catches during four years as a Pirate. The current NCAA record, 387, is held by former Pirate, Justin Hardy.

Hardy will be in attendance during Saturday’s game against Navy, which starts at 4 o’clock in Greenville.

This season, Jones currently leads the NCAA FBS in four categories: receptions (139), receiving yards (1,473), receptions per game (13.9) and receiving yards per game (147.3). He stands fifth on the NCAA FBS single-season receptions chart and needs 17 catches over the next two games to pass current record-holder Freddie Barnes (155/Bowling Green/2009).

On Nov. 7, Jones was formally recognized as a Heisman Trophy candidate by the Heisman Trophy Trust, while being selected as a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy and Senior CLASS Award on Nov. 3.

WNCT’s Patrick Quinn went one-on-one with Jones and found that this record is just part of the legacy Zay hopes to leave at East Carolina.
