A Loving Home: Abby’s success story

A Loving Home

Greenville, N.C. (WNCT) – WNCT 9 On Your Side is partnering with the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina for an adoption series we’re calling “A Loving Home.”

Every Tuesday at 5 p.m. Anchor Angie Quezada will profile a different child looking for a family to call their own.

At ten years old, Abby is a natural when it comes to hitting all the right moves on her roller skates.

“She started skating with little skates, at five she got big skates, and now at ten years old, she’s the best skater out there,” Hal Pullum says.

Hal Pullum is the general manager at Round-A-Bout Skating Center in Fayetteville. He’s been with the company for almost 34 years. But when he’s not working at the rink, he’s a full time dad.

Hal and his wife raised three girls before considering foster care and adoption.

“As they grew, the house was empty, so we decided to start adoption,” explains Pullum.

Pullum and his family moved to a six acre farm and bought several different kind of animals to keep the children entertained.

Abby came into the Pullums’ lives in 2011 at the age of four. And within a six month span, Abby had lived with two different foster families.

Hal remembers being ready to face any challenges that would come with Abby’s past.

“She had attachment issues, you know, she didn’t have her mom in her life in her first couple years,” explains Hal.

The Pullums’ attended classes to learn how to care for Abby, through not only love, but therapy as well.

“Eventually she came around, especially when you have this type of environment. All she needed was a loving family, a place to sleep, food, and somebody to show they cared,” expressed Hal.

The Pullums’ officially adopted Abby two years later in 2013.
