3 arrested after elderly couple robbed in car at gunpoint

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - Three arrests have been made after a couple was robbed inside a car in Greenville Sunday evening.

Aaron Baker, 17, Christopher Barrett, 20, and Ayunna Jackson, 19, have all been charged in connection to the robbery.

Officers responded to the area of Greenville Boulevard and Evans Street just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

A 70-year-old man and woman told police they were driving north on Evans Street and stopped at a red light at the intersection of Greenville Boulevard.

At that time, they saw a man exit the vehicle directly behind them and get into the backseat of their vehicle. Police identified the man as Baker.

Once inside the car, police said the suspect struck the woman across the face, displayed a handgun and demanded her purse.

The suspect got back into the vehicle from which he originally came from and the vehicle quickly left the scene.

No one was seriously hurt, and the couple was able to provide a detailed description of both the suspect and the vehicle he was traveling in.

A short time later, deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office notified Greenville officers that the vehicle may have just passed the Greenville Mall.

Moments later, a Greenville police officer located the vehicle at the intersection of Greenville Boulevard and 10th Street, at which point the officer activated his lights and sirens.

The driver of the suspect vehicle initially ignored the blue lights, but eventually came to a stop in the area of E. 10th Street and Forest Hill Drive.

Police said Baker jumped out of the car and ran onto the green way behind a nearby apartment complex.

He was caught by officers from the Greenville Police Department, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office and ECU Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle, Barrett, and another passenger, Jackson, who police discovered had her 7-month-old baby with her, were also taken into custody.

Baker was charged as the person who robbed the couple, and he is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 bond.

Barrett was given a $100,000 bond, and Jackson was given a $50,000 bond.
