A Hubert woman was arrested Friday morning after shooting and killing her mother in Cedar Point, deputies said.

April L. Harvey, 56, was charged with murder.

The Carteret County detectives along with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was identified as Harvey’s mother, Evelyn M. Harvey, 77.

Evelyn lived at The Villas at Megan’s Bay located off Lighthouse Lane in Cedar Point.

Deputies said the fatal shooting occurred Thursday overnight.

Deputies responded to a call made by April.

“April Harvey has been cooperative with investigators and actually made her own call to report the incident to the Onslow County Communications Center,” said Chief Detective Jason Wank.

The Carteret County deputies then visited Evelyn’s house and discovered her deceased body.

Deputies said Evelyn died as the result of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies along with the North Carolina Marine Patrol recovered the .357 caliber revolver used in the homicide from the water near the Swansboro-Cedar Point bridge.

Deputies believe a recent family dispute involving financial issues was the motive of the crime.

April was sent to the Carteret County Jail under no bond.

She is scheduled for an appearance in the Carteret County District Court on April 9.
