Goldsboro man arrested for attempted murder; victim still in critical condition

A Goldsboro man wanted for attempted murder on March 2 was arrested Sunday night after police stopped his car for speeding.

Goldsboro police said Alexander Rickey Shaw Jr., 25, was arrested at 9:50 p.m. Sunday when officers stopped his car for speeding in the 900 block of South Audubon Avenue.

Shaw Jr., who police said is a validated gang member, is being held in the Wayne County Detention Center on a $2.5 million bond on a charge of first-degree attempted murder.

Investigators said on March 2, that Shaw Jr. allegedly shot Steven Belle Britt, 42, at a home at 1404 Mimosa Street in Goldsboro.

Britt was taken by ambulance to Wayne UNC Health, and was later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Detectives continue to investigate a motive for the shooting.
